Small businesses are the foundation of our local economy. To help local small businesses flourish, four of our ReadNation teacher assistants - Caroline Xiong, Aiden Tan, Samantha Tan and Kaitlyn Yau - formed SmallBizSavior.

SmallBizSavior’s mission is to bring together small businesses and consumers by bridging language barriers. Many small businesses in Queens are owned by first generation immigrants who do not speak or struggle to communicate in English; many residents of Queens are also first generation immigrants.

SmallBizSavior’s innovative solution - a sticker with QR code to bring customers to Google Translate. This simple tool to help non-English speaking customers and business owners better communicate with each other to help small businesses in Queens thrive.

The SmallBizSavior team delivered a powerful and thorough presentation to the Civic Leadership Academy’s (CLA’s) judging panel, winning the CLA’s 2023 Mini-Grant. They have many plans to expand and will need more volunteers. For anyone interested in joining their efforts, please visit their website www.smallbizsavior.org for more information.

Congratulations to the SmallBizSavior team!
